Porch Ideas

The porch in our house is my sanctuary in the spring, summer and fall.  It is my favorite room in the house.  I love to curl up with a book and drink some coffee in the mornings or sit with a glass of wine in the evenings.  The room has a awesome lofty ceiling with a fan and windows that allow a nice breeze to circulate through.

The problem is that we don’t have any real furniture in the space.  And like every other room in the house it’s small.  I’d love to pick up a patio set but it won’t fit.  So I’ve been debating:  two chairs? one love seat? built-in window bench?

My husband likes wood for the space (as do I) which is a more expensive furniture option.  I agree that wood makes the space looks warmer than a metal.  Does anyone know of any good sources for teak or eucalyptus patio furniture?   I’m hoping with spring around the corner that more stores will have patio furniture in stock soon!

There are a bunch of places on Cape, one on MacArthur’s Blvd in Bourne, one in Mashpee near Botello Lumber, and one in Centerville by the CVS and Shaws. They all sell wooden patio sets. I say go for a built in storage bench with a cute cusion and decorative pillows, and then a small table and chairs set for the opposite side.

Thanks for the comments Heather!! I did some measuring over the weekend and a love seat eats up that space completely. I might be back to the idea of two lounge chairs. I’ll have to check out the places on the Cape – having no luck in the City! I love the storage bench idea but I’m worried that people (myself particularly) will lean into the screens and those will get ruined over time. Stay tuned….

What a cute space, I’d never want to leave! I think two chairs might be the way to go, so that it is most flexible and doesn’t end up feeling too heavy. If you found a chair with an ottoman, you could put your feet up, too!
