Installing the Rain Barrel

It took us almost a year, but finally Howard went and picked up our rain barrel that he left at his old house.   Installing the rain barrel at our house was an easy project for a lazy Saturday day. It’s great using the reclaimed water to water the planters or garden in the summer.  Last summer we were on a water ban by the end of June so having the barrel will help.

Step 1:  Create a level surface.  We used blocks to lift the rain barrel off the ground since the spigot is very close to the ground.

Step 2:  Mark where the gutter needs to be cut so water will flow into the barrel.

Step 3:  Cut the gutter.  Be care – that looks sharp!

Here is the rain barrel in its new home.  Now we just need to wait for the rain to fill up the barrel.  Hopefully we can get through the rest of staycation week with mainly sun though.  The house wants us to dress it in some new stain.
