Friday Garden Update

It’s a rainy Friday in Boston. I’m not complaining because it means we can go out tonight and not feel guilty about not watering the garden.  It’s been awhile since I posted a garden update.  And yes, the garden is still looking pretty pathetic.  The lettuce is a day away from bolting and we’ve started pulling it one head at a time.

The edamame is growing very tall.  It’s not very leafy though so I’m guessing it won’t yield a lot of pods.  Keep your fingers crossed that I’m wrong.

The bee balm has flowered and is attracting a lot of busy bees.

Do you know how hard it is to get a photo of a bee? It sounds easy but those little guys move so fast. And after awhile I think they got annoyed with me and started buzzing around my head until I ran away screaming.  I have never been stung and am petrified of them! I don’t know what scares me more bees or sharks.

The hydrangea that we moved from the deck planters are starting to bloom.  The ones along the driveway have buds but there are no flowers yet.  Why do I feel like our yard is behind everyone else’s this year?

The planters on the deck are looking healthy.  These have  filled out very well and are colorful.

We’ll be busy spreading the new mulch tomorrow and I will make sure to get some before and after shots.  We will be going from red to organic dark mulch.  Stay tuned!

We really wanted to do a garden but time got away from us… and now it’s way too hot for a garden in Virginia Beach. Oh well… maybe a Fall garden? I’m impressed with your green thumb. I kill everything!!
