Log End Table Update

Having a long weekend at home was just what we needed to get back to a few old projects. Like the end table that I was making out of one of the logs.

Part 1 is here and Part 2 is here if you need to catch up.

Initially, I was very enthusiastic about our end table made from a tree cut down after Hurricane Irene.  But after scraping the bark away, the wood began to crack. And the cracks almost made me turn this end table into firewood.

But, we had already bought some tung oil to finish the project. So, why not just go ahead and try to finish it up? Sometimes all a piece of furniture needs is a little love.

The oil went on easily with with a dry cloth. The difference was immediately apparent.

I make no apologies for my weekend appearance.  No need to dress up for an afternoon in the garage is there?

I applied three coats of tung oil with each drying at least 24 hours in between.

I would have liked to have gotten a few more coats on before the weather turned cold. But I think I missed my window so we’ll have to put this project to rest until the spring. How did winter arrive overnight?
